The wait is over! After months of anticipation, two banger songs and a teaser that set social media abuzz last April, the full trailer of Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Coolie’ has finally landed. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the action-packed thriller is set to release in theatres on August 14. The movie will be clashing head-on with another high-octane flick ‘War 2’ starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
The three-minute-long trailer promises an adrenaline-pumping ride, with Rajinikanth playing Deva, a legendary gold smuggler looking to reclaim his past glory, armed with stolen tech hidden in vintage golden watches. The film is set against the gritty underworld of smuggling and espionage.
Stellar cast for Coolie
Joining Rajinikanth is a pan-India ensemble —- Telugu actor Nagarjuna, Kannada actor Upendra, Malayalam actor Soubin Shahir and Bollywood’s Aamir Khan in a cameo. Sathyaraj and Shruti Haasan round out the stellar cast.
Adding to the buzz are the film’s two hit tracks, Chikitu (21M views on YouTube) and Monica (48M views on YouTube). The soundtrack is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, reuniting with Rajinikanth after the blockbuster ‘Jailer’.
Coolie gets ‘A’ certificate
Coolie has received an A (Adults Only) certificate from the CBFC, marking Lokesh Kanagaraj’s first full-fledged adult-rated film. Known for Vikram and Leo, Kanagaraj seems to be pushing creative boundaries with Coolie. The makers hosted a grand trailer launch at Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, with Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Shruti Haasan, and the full cast and crew in attendance. While the storyline remains under wraps, the team promised a high-octane mass entertainer that’s sure to thrill Rajinikanth’s fans.
