Rajinikanth’s latest action drama, Coolie, is making waves at the box office. Released on August 14, the film marks Thalaiva’s 50th year in the film industry and has already become his biggest opening ever. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in just two days, with its India net collection reaching Rs 118 crore. If it continues at this pace, the film could surpass the lifetime earnings of Rajinikanth’s last hit, Vettaiyan.

Coolie Box Office collection despite War 2 release

Coolie hit theaters at the same time as Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s War 2, yet it is dominating both the box offices in India and abroad. The film opened to Rs 65 crore in India across all languages on day one, with the Hindi version contributing around Rs 5–6 crore. On Independence Day (August 15), the film earned Rs 53.50 crore in India, while the Hindi collection rose slightly to about Rs 6.5 crore, as people flocked to the theatres to make the most of the long weekend. Overall, the two-day total stands at Rs 118.50 crore.

Rajnikanth’s Coolie becomes biggest Tamil opener of all time

With a worldwide collection of over Rs 151 crore on day one, Coolie has become the biggest Tamil opener ever, surpassing Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo. Both films were directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who has once again proven his box office expertise. By the second day, Coolie’s worldwide total had crossed Rs 200 crore, and industry experts expect it could reach Rs 300 crore soon.

Morning and afternoon shows recorded 63.86 per cent and 86.25 per cent, while evening and night shows registered 86.37 per cent and 86.33 per cent, respectively. In Chennai and Bengaluru, the film had 721 and 752 shows, with occupancy rates above 80 per cent, Chennai even hitting 96.50 per cent.
