Hollywood star Alec Baldwin crashed his wife Hilaria Baldwin’s white Range Rover into a tree in the Hamptons on Monday afternoon (US time). The already controversy-ridden actor, owing to his connection to the Rust movie shooting incident that led to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’ death in 2021, has since broken his silence on the latest instance of his contentious headline-making car crash.

Alec Baldwin car crash: Actor speaks out after Hamptons accident

The 67-year-old was travelling with his younger brother Stephen Baldwin at the time of the accident on the Montauk Highway in East Hampton, New York. Taking to his Instagram account, he laid out an explanation about what led to the crash. As per his account, a garbage truck, which he claimed was “the side of a whale,” cut in before him, resulting in a manoeuvre that ended with him crashing his wife’s car into a tree.

“To avoid hitting him, I hit a tree, I hit a big, fat tree and crushed my car – my wife’s car. I crushed my wife’s car. I feel bad about that. But it’s all fine, I’m fine, and my brother’s fine,” he said in the Instagram video.

According to pictures of the aftermath shared by US outlets, including Page Six and TMZ, the white Range Rover was spotted quite banged-up against a huge tree, leaving the hood severely damaged. Meanwhile, the Baldwin brothers were seen standing outside of the car after the crash. They didn’t appear to be badly hurt.

In the video Baldwin shared online, he said that an “Officer Gerken” with the East Hampton Police Department was present at the scene. Thanking him for his help, he said the officer was “as nice as can be, as pleasant as can be about the whole thing.”

The incident followed his attendance at the Hamptons International Film Festival over the weekend. And so, he spent a significant runtime speaking of the event and its organisers.
