Wands at the ready! HBO has officially begun its magical quest to find the next generation of Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The studio has posted an open casting call for its highly anticipated TV adaptation of JK Rowling’s beloved wizarding saga.
Children aged 9 to 11 in April 2025 are invited to audition for the iconic trio, embarking on their journey through Hogwarts and beyond. Aspiring young wizards (pun intended!) must hail from the UK or Ireland, but in a progressive twist, producers have emphasised their commitment to inclusive, diverse casting across races, ethnicities and gender identities.
Applicants are asked to submit two short self-tapes, including a poem or story of their choice – just no Harry Potter excerpts! The casting call even encourages budding stars to showcase their own accents.
The new series, set to air on Max (formerly HBO Max), promises to stay “authentic” to the original seven books, with each season dedicated to a specific installment. This decade-long project will have Rowling onboard as an executive producer, and multiple episodes will be helmed by Mark Mylod. As the search continues for the next Boy Who Lived, fans eagerly await which fresh faces will fill those famous Hogwarts robes.
