Coronavirus Cases In India, Covid-19 Deaths in India on July 11 Highlights: India reported 41, 506 fresh Covid-19 cases as of July 11, Sunday, and 895 related deaths, said the health ministry. Total recoveries in the country at 97.2 percent now stand at 2,99,75,064 across India with 41,526 patients having recovered during the last 24 hours. The daily positivity rate is at 2.25%, less than 3% for 20 consecutive days.
Meanwhile, the reproductive number, an indicator of how fast the Covid-19 pandemic is spreading, has increased since the middle of April, bringing in a reason for concern among Covid health experts that if it is an early signal for an impending surge in cases.
The Ministry of Home Affairs and Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan asked eight states- Goa, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal that can be the hotspot of the new Covid surge to “ensure strict adherence to the protocols prescribed in respect of wearing of masks, social distancing and other safe behaviour.” On Saturday, India had logged 42,766 new infections and 1,206 fatalities.
About 37.60 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far under the nationwide vaccination drive, out of which 37,23,367 doses were administered in the last 24 hours, the health ministry said. Sikkim’s COVID-19 caseload jumped to 22,307 as 144 more people tested positive for the infection in the last 24 hours, while two new fatalities pushed the death toll to 315, a health department bulletin said on Sunday. Of the 144 new cases, East Sikkim district reported 106 cases followed by South Sikkim (26) and West Sikkim district (12), it said.
After months of closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools and colleges in Puducherry will reopen on July 16. “Colleges will reopen on July 16. The Delhi prisons department currently has no inmate or jail staff who is COVID-19 positive, officials said on Sunday. However, they said Covid-appropriate behaviour is still strictly being followed. “Even though there is no case of the coronavirus infection in the prisons presently, the jail authorities are taking all the precautions. Covid-appropriate behaviour, including social distancing among the inmates, is being strictly followed. The new inmates are initially isolated and later shifted to the barracks,” Director General (Prisons) Sandeep Goel said. (PTI)
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday warned people that a third wave of coronavirus may strike if they become careless and asked them to take all precautions and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. “If we are negligent, then like other countries, there may be a third wave. There should be no need of taking strict steps like lockdown again. This will be possible only with the cooperation of everybody,” he tweeted. He said Covid positive cases have reduced due to which many relaxations have been given in the state. (PTI)
The Arunachal Pradesh government has turned down the request for a week-long total lockdown in the state capital from July 12 but suggested a slew of measures to check the spike in COVID-19 cases. In a letter to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar, Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom on Saturday sought approval for a total lockdown for a week from Monday, citing the rise in COVID-19 cases. (PTI)
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday rolled out a scheme to provide one-time financial assistance of Rs 2.5 lakh each to all widows, whose husbands died due to COVID-19, if their annual family income is less than Rs 5 lakh. Under the new ‘Chief Minister’s COVID-19 Widows Support Scheme’, Sarma handed over cheques to 176 eligible beneficiaries from eight districts at a function here. At least 873 beneficiaries have been identified as of now under this scheme, and all the cheques will be given to them by state ministers in districts by the next week, Sarma said. (PTI)

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the Uttar Pradesh government of hiding the COVID-19 death figures, and claimed the state government did not want to give the statistics as it did not want to help the people. He also highlighted the issue of teachers dying during panchayat poll duty in the state. “The government did not give the statistics pertaining to the COVID-19 deaths, nor any help was given to them. Nineteen new cases of coronavirus were reported in Ladakh, raising its tally to 20,186, while 35 more patients were cured of the infection, officials said on Saturday. All the 19 persons who returned positive for COVID-19 are from Leh district, the health department officials said. No death due to COVID-19 was reported in the union territory in the past 24 hours, they said. (PTI)
Odisha on Sunday registered 65 COVID-19 fatalities, the highest-ever in a single day, pushing the toll to 4,599, while 2,282 new cases raised the tally to 9,39,752, a health department official said. Fourteen fresh fatalities were reported from Khurda district, of which state capital Bhubaneswar is a part, six each from Puri, Keonjhar and Bargarh, five each from Angul and Mayurbhanj, four from Nayagarh and three from Sundargarh, Kendrapara and Ganjam.
