India’s job market is witnessing a significant transformation, with opportunities for women increasing by 48% in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to foundit. The report identifies key industries—Information Technology (IT), Banking, Financial Services and Insurance (BFSI), Manufacturing, and Healthcare—as primary drivers of this growth, alongside a rising demand for specialised talent in emerging technology roles.

“The Indian job market is evolving rapidly, creating greater access and opportunities for women, particularly in high-growth industries and tech-driven roles,” said Anupama Bhimrajka, VP-Marketing, foundit.

“We have also observed a 55% increase in work-from-office arrangements, signalling a shift in employer priorities. While challenges persist in areas like salary parity and evolving work-mode preferences, the overall outlook for women’s workforce participation in 2025 remains highly encouraging.”

The data highlights that the majority of jobs for women in 2025 are targeted towards early-career professionals. Women with 0–3 years of experience account for 53% of job opportunities, followed by 32% for those with 4–6 years of experience. The representation decreases as experience levels rise, with 11% of jobs available for those with 7–10 years of experience, 2% for 11–15 years, and just 1% for those with over 15 years of experience.

Freshers continue to see strong demand, comprising nearly 25% of total job openings for women, particularly in IT, Human Resources (HR), and Marketing.

Industry Trends: IT, BFSI, and Emerging Sectors

Women’s participation in the white-collar workforce remains highest in IT (23%), followed by BFSI (11%) and Education (6%). These industries continue to be the top three employers of women professionals in India.

A sector-wise comparison reveals a shift in job distribution for women. While IT/Computers-Software remains the largest employer, its share declined slightly from 36% in February 2024 to 34% in February 2025. Similarly, recruitment and staffing jobs for women fell from 24% to 20%, and BFSI from 23% to 21%. However, Advertising, Market Research, Public Relations, and Events saw an increase from 8% to 11%, while engineering and production rose from 6% to 8%.

The growing participation of women in emerging technologies is another notable trend. Currently, 26% of women are employed in specialised tech roles, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, Data Science, and Cloud Computing, signalling a shift towards more advanced skill sets.

IT continues to be the leading function for women professionals, with its share rising from 25% in 2024 to 32% in 2025. Other key functions include Human Resources, which increased from 18% to 21%, and Sales & Business Development, which grew from 12% to 15%.

Expanding Opportunities Beyond Tier-1 Cities

A growing number of women professionals are securing jobs outside India’s major metropolitan areas. According to the report, 41% of women’s jobs in 2025 are now based in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities such as Nashik, Surat, Coimbatore, and Jaipur, compared to 59% in Tier-1 cities. This marks a shift in hiring strategies, as companies expand their talent search beyond traditional corporate hubs.

Among Tier-1 cities, Delhi/NCR leads the hiring for women, with its job share increasing from 21% in February 2024 to 22% in February 2025. While Mumbai’s share remained stable at 15%, Bangalore’s share dropped from 17% to 15%, and Hyderabad saw a decline from 11% to 9%. Pune, however, experienced growth, with its job share rising from 8% to 10%.

The report also provides insights into salary distribution for women in 2025. A majority (81%) of job openings for women fall in Rs 0-10 lakh annual salary bracket. Jobs offering Rs 11-25 lakh salaries account for 11%, while those with Rs 25 lakh and above make up 8% of total job opportunities.
