“We have been told that the server is down. This has happened earlier as well. We travelled from far away, leaving our jobs, only to find this out here. The authorities don’t understand the effort and expense we incur on commuting. Why weren’t we informed about this earlier?” an aspirant said.
At MM Public School in Sector 4, Gurugram, chaos erupted on Friday morning when candidates arrived and found that their exam had been cancelled. According to officials, the aspirants damaged the school gate, prompting the police to intervene. A police team also reached the spot.
“The exam has been cancelled due to technical problems in the SSC server. While the server began functioning again after the first shift, candidates from that shift caused a disturbance and prevented the second shift examinees from entering the venue. The police were called to restore order,” Centre head Manoj Gupta said, according to PTI.
Meanwhile, reports said the SSC has clarified that fresh dates have been assigned to the affected candidates to ensure they do not lose their attempt.
Multiple centres affected
Reports stated that besides Gurugram, official notices confirmed that examinations at Bharti Vidya Niketan Public School in Delhi were cancelled due to administrative issues. The candidates who were to appear at these centres have been assigned new dates for their exams – September 24, 25, and 26, 2025.
Similarly, the exam at Digital Computer Education in Jammu was reportedly disrupted by technical glitches. The rescheduled date for candidates of this centre has been fixed for September 26, 2025.
SSC Chairman responds
Commenting on the technical glitches and plight of the aspirants, SSC Chairman S. Gopalkrishnan clarified that the examination was successfully conducted across 227 centres, but some issues were reported at 12 locations. This included a major disruption in Gurugram.
The chairman reportedly said that outdated devices and technical failures at the last moment had forced the Commission to drop that centre. He assured that new centres in Delhi-NCR would be allotted within 10 days.
As for Jammu, he said only minor technical problems were observed, adding that the addition of new features in the examination process sometimes leads to such errors.
SSC exams protest
SSC conducts CGL examinations every year in which lakhs of students appear. This year, a total of 28 lakhs applications have been filled. The body is responsible for the large-scale exams and this year, massive protests were held after aspirants highlighted mismanagement during the Selection Post Phase 13 recruitment test held between July 24 and August 1, 2025.
The disruptions were due to abrupt cancellations, software crashes, biometric verification failures, and incorrect exam centre allotments. Protests were held across the country against the Centre, which led to postponement of the SSC CGL which was previously scheduled to be held in August.
