Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha, as it seems offers several skill-based Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) courses across all its seven campuses including one in Andhra Pradesh (AP). To offer practical and skill-based learning, the university claims to have more than 30 in-house manufacturing centres across different sectors which are handled by students under the guidance of trainers and professors. “Our goal is to create a dynamic learning environment where students not only gain theoretical knowledge but also have ample opportunities to apply their skills in real-world settings. This involves expanding our collaboration with industry partners to offer internships, research projects, and hands-on training opportunities,” Supriya Patnayak, vice chancellor, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha, told FE Education.
As per the university’s website, it offers courses across a diverse range of streams including Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Pharmacy, Agriculture, Allied Health and Paramedics, among others. Through the in-house manufacturing centres, the university claimed to have generated a revenue of Rs 50 crore in the last fiscal – FY23. Further, the university claims that regularly it receives orders from government bodies and private companies from which it generates the revenue. These manufacturing units span across different sectors including production of furniture, the assembling of e-vehicles, paver blocks manufacturing, components of two-wheelers and four-wheelers and the production of school and college uniforms, PPE Kits and masks, among others. “We have several industry ties with governmental and non-governmental organisations for selling our products. The money we generate through these plants, we invest in to further enhance the institute’s capacity in terms of infrastructure, teaching quality and affordability. Looking ahead, we are focused on further deepening our ties with industry partners and fostering entrepreneurship among our students,” D. N. Rao, vice president, Centurion University of Technology and Management, Odisha, said.
When asked, the institute claims to offer several scholarships to students with various backgrounds that aim to make education affordable. For example, Merit Scholarship- which the institute offers includes a 30% reduction on tuition fees for students who scored 70% and above in grade 12th, meanwhile meritorious students can avail a full fee waiver scholarship. This is for students from the economically weaker section. Also under Sports Scholarship, it offers a 30% reduction on tuition fees to students with strong sports backgrounds, among others. “Additionally, we have diversified our scholarship options and created a platform where alumni and donors can directly support deserving students. We believe in transparency, hence, we provide detailed profiles of students in need, allowing donors to make informed decisions without any influence from us,” Patnayak said.
As per the university, across all its branches it has a combined students’ strength of more than 24,000 of which 14,000 are in regular programmes and more than 10,000 opt for short-term certificate courses. Further, the institute claims that among 3,023 eligible students across its all branches, 2,358 students got placements in the last academic year. The university further said that departments with higher placements are Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Aerospace and Pharmaceutical departments, among others. “We are exploring innovative platforms such as AWS Skills Centre to provide our students with cutting-edge skills that are in high demand globally. By continuously adapting our curriculum to meet industry needs, we are empowering our graduates to become leaders and innovators in their respective fields,” Rao said.
