Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the southern campus of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and the 10th Battalion campus of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) near Andhra Pradesh’s Vijayawada on Sunday (January 19), alongside several other key projects. The minister will also be the chief guest at the 20th Foundation Day celebrations of the NDRF at Kondapavuluru in Krishna district.
The Home Minister arrived in Vijayawada on Saturday night and was received at the airport by Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh and other local leaders. He later proceeded to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu’s residence in Undavalli, Guntur district.
During the visit, Shah will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth over Rs 200 crore, including the southern campus of NIDM and the 10th Battalion campus of NDRF. The southern NIDM campus was established to meet the disaster management needs of the southern region, in line with the Andhra Pradesh Reorganization Act, 2014. Additionally, he will inaugurate the Regional Response Centre (RRC) premises in Supaul and lay the foundation stone for RRC Gorakhpur.
Shah will also release disaster awareness videos in 11 regional languages, aimed at spreading knowledge on disaster preparedness. Furthermore, he will lay the foundation stone for a new ‘Integrated Indoor Shooting Range’ at the National Police Academy (NPA) in Hyderabad, designed to train IPS probationary officers in firing skills.
The event will be attended by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Minister of State for Home Affairs B Sanjay Kumar, who are expected to deliver addresses during the ceremony. Shah is scheduled to depart from Vijayawada at 2:40 p.m. and arrive in New Delhi by 5:10 p.m.
