Indian Handloom and Handicrafts Take Center Stage at Lovely Professional University Event organised in the presence of LPU Chairperson Dr. Rashmi Mittal and Pro Vice Chancellor Sushil Modi, the program brought together designers, artisans, and students to explore the integration of traditional weaving techniques with modern design sensibilities

A cultural and fashion showcase highlighting India’s traditional handloom and handicrafts was recently held at Lovely Professional University (LPU), with participation from the World Designing Forum (WDF). The event aimed to spotlight indigenous textile practices and their relevance in contemporary design.

One segment of the event featured handloom-based collections, with designers presenting garments that merged heritage craftsmanship with contemporary aesthetics. A panel discussion titled “Handloom in Hi-Fashion” also took place, focusing on the evolving role of Indian handloom in modern fashion and the collaboration between academia and industry.

“This event is not just a celebration of fabric and fashion—it is a movement to ensure India’s cultural identity is preserved through design,” said Ankush Anami, CEO of World Designing Forum. “By engaging leading universities like LPU, we are sowing the seeds of a national design revolution that places Indian handloom at the forefront of global fashion.”
The event formed part of ongoing efforts by design institutions and forums to promote sustainable practices in fashion, and to encourage a renewed interest in local craft traditions among younger generations.
