The University of Strathclyde, Glasgow is inviting applications for its MChem Chemistry with Drug Discovery course for September 2024, as per the release.
The MChem Chemistry with Drug Discovery course has been designed to train a new generation of chemists with a profound understanding of biology and pharmaceuticals. The core focus of this programme is to train a new generation of biologically and pharmaceutically-aware chemistry graduates whose mission is to invent better, safer drugs to fight and cure disease, as explained in the release.
The institute claims that it is taught in collaboration with the Strathclyde Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences and is designed in consultation with the major UK drug manufacturers. It also claims that the strong relationships with industry leaders such as GlaxoSmithKline and AstraZeneca, enhance job prospects upon graduation.
The curriculum encompasses a blend of core chemistry courses and specialised subjects, including disease targets, prototype drug design, synthetic strategies and drug compound refinement. Graduates of this programme will be well-equipped to pursue a wide range of career opportunities, particularly within the pharmaceutical industry, release added.
Students can study at a European university for one year of their degree. They can also spend their placement year abroad, it added.
As per the release the applicants should have a strong academic record, with marks between 70-75% in all subjects taken at level XII and X, emphasising proficiency in the proposed area of study. For the academic year 2024/25, the annual fee for international students is £25,250, as mentioned in the release.
