The Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) has reopened applications with the launch of Round 2 of its pilot phase, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced on Thursday.

This round offers over 1 lakh internship opportunities in leading companies across more than 730 districts in India. In the first round, the scheme received over 6 lakh applications, according to ministry data.

More than 300 top companies across diverse sectors—including Oil, Gas & Energy; Banking & Financial Services; Travel & Hospitality; Automotive; Metals & Mining; Manufacturing & Industrial; and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG)—are offering internships to help young Indians gain practical experience, build professional networks, and enhance their employability.

Eligible candidates can explore and apply for internships based on their preferred district, state, sector, or field. They can also filter opportunities within a customizable radius of their current address. In this round, each applicant can apply for up to three internships before the deadline, the ministry stated.

To support Round 2, over 70 IEC (Information, Education & Communication) events are being organized across districts with the highest number of internship openings, targeting colleges, universities, ITIs, and Rozgar Melas. Additionally, a nationwide digital campaign is underway, utilizing multiple platforms and influencers to maximize outreach.

Spearheaded by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, the PMIS aims to tap into India’s young talent pool by offering 12-month paid internships in top companies. The scheme is open to individuals aged 21 to 24 who are not currently enrolled in full-time academic programs or employed, providing them with a valuable opportunity to launch their careers.

Each intern will receive a monthly stipend of ₹5,000 along with a one-time financial aid of Rs 6,000. The internships include at least six months of hands-on training and professional experience, ensuring participants gain both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to succeed in the workforce.
