A month after increasing the number of attempts for the Joint Entrance Examination Advanced (JEE Advanced) from two to three, the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to revert to the earlier eligibility criteria, which limits candidates to two attempts in two consecutive years.
In an official notice, the JAB stated that the decision was made during a meeting on November 15, 2024, after considering various factors. The statement clarified that this change supersedes the eligibility criteria announced in the press release dated November 5, 2024, and reinstates the rules that have been in place since 2013. The board emphasised that all other eligibility criteria remain unchanged and directed aspirants to the official website for further details.
As per the restored criteria, candidates must be born on or after October 1, 2000, to be eligible. A five-year age relaxation is provided for SC, ST, and PwD candidates, allowing those born on or after October 1, 1995, to apply.
JEE Advanced eligibility criteria
Candidates who have been admitted to an IIT in any academic program under the JoSAA Business Rules of 2024 are not eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2025, regardless of whether they continued in the program. Similarly, those whose admissions were cancelled after joining an IIT are also ineligible. However, candidates who were admitted to a preparatory course at an IIT for the first time in 2024 are allowed to take the exam.
Additionally, candidates who were allocated an IIT seat through JoSAA but did not report, withdrew before the final round of seat allotment, or had their seat cancelled before the last round are eligible to appear for the examination.
The other eligibility requirements for JEE Advanced 2025 remain unchanged, and aspirants are encouraged to refer to the official website for detailed information.
