The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has released guidelines for Class 11 students opting for Science streams – group A (non-medical) and group AB (biology and maths).

According to the rules issued by GSHSEB on Thursday, students must have passed the basic maths subject in their Class 10 board examination with a minimum of 33 percent marks, excluding any grace marks, to be eligible for admission to Class 11.

Since the 2021-22 academic year, Class 10 students have been required to take two sets of mathematics subjects – basic and standard.

Additional admission requirements

Additionally, the board has instructed schools to conduct a separate 30-mark test based on the standard maths syllabus to evaluate the students’ ability and aptitude. This test will consist of 15 multiple-choice questions and 15 subjective questions, with students needing to score at least 33 percent to qualify for admission to Class 11 A or AB groups.

Moreover, schools are required to hold a personal meeting with each student to review their performance from Classes 6 to 10. This meeting aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the student’s academic progress, strengths, and areas needing improvement, thereby enabling tailored guidance for their future educational endeavours. Additionally, schools must regularly conduct tests for Mathematics in Class 11, ensuring continuous assessment and readiness for higher-level studies in the Science stream.

These guidelines must be communicated to parents and students seeking admission to the Class 11 Science streams, the board stated. This communication is essential to ensure that both students and parents are fully aware of the academic expectations and requirements, allowing them to make informed decisions about their educational pathways.
