The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has released the official exam schedule for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026. IIT Guwahati is the organising institute for this year’s exam. 

As per the notification, the GATE 2026 examination will be held on four days – February 7, 8, 14 and 15, – across two weekends. The exam will be conducted in computer-based test (CBT) mode. The GATE 2026 admit card release date is expected to be announced later this week.

GATE 2026: Exam and shift timings 

The exam will be conducted in two shifts each day. The morning session will be held from 9.30 am to 12.30 pm, while the afternoon session will run from 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Candidates from different engineering, science and interdisciplinary streams will appear for the exam on different days and sessions.

On February 7, subjects such as Agricultural Engineering, Engineering Sciences, Geomatics Engineering, Mathematics, Mining Engineering, Textile Engineering and XE/XL will be held in the morning session. The afternoon session on the same day will include Aerospace Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Geology, Physics, and Humanities and Social Sciences.

The Computer Science and Engineering exam will be spread over two days. On February 8, CS-1 and Statistics will be conducted in the morning session, while CS-2, Environmental Science and Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and Petroleum Engineering will be held in the afternoon.

On the last day, February 15, Electronics and Communication Engineering will be conducted in the morning session. The afternoon session will be reserved for Architecture and Planning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence.

GATE 2026 scores will be used for admission to postgraduate programmes like MTech, MS and PhD in IITs, NITs and other institutes across the country. Apart from admissions, many public sector undertakings (PSUs) also use GATE scores to hire candidates.
