The Directorate of Education (DoE), Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), organised the fModel UN (MUN) conference – Vimarsh, for primary students of Sarvodaya Vidyalayas on 25th November 2023 at Shaheed Hemu Kalani, Sarvodaya Bal Vidyalaya, Lajpat Nagar, as per the official announcement.
Vimarsh, a fresh initiative of the Nursery- Primary Branch was conducted under the guidance and leadership of Director, DoE, Himanshu Gupta. The MUN had around 100 students from Classes 3rd to 5th representing 67 member countries. Through this, they learnt about diplomacy, resolving issues through dialogue, international relations and the workings of the United Nations, as detailed in the release.
Delegates delivered opening statements from their given countries’ perspective on the agenda ‘Ensuring Equitable Access to Clean Water and Sustainable Water Resource Management targeting SDG 6. This was followed by an unmoderated caucus where the executive board (also consisting of students) facilitated an open discussion on the resolution offered for the agenda. The agenda was presented before the committee and was passed with a majority, the statement added.
The director inaugurated the event with a lamp lighting ceremony. He also acted as the Secretary-General of the MUN and delivered the keynote address. “The participants proved that such a spectacular MUN can also be conducted at the primary level,” he said.
All delegates were felicitated with certificates by Himanshu Gupta, director, Rita Sharma Primary Branch, additional director, Suresh Chandra Meena, deputy director district South East, Kanchan Jain, deputy director Nursery Primary Branch and other dignitaries from DoE. The top 15 students were selected as the best delegates and received trophies, Panchantra Books and appreciation certificates. A dedicated MUN committee was established consisting of the officials from Nursery Primary Branch and Project Management Unit members (hailing from Rocket Learning), headed by Deputy Director Nursery Primary Branch, Dr. Kanchan Jain for an effective execution, as outlined in the release.
