The National Testing Agency (NTA) is likely to postpone the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate courses, according to information accessed by The Indian Express. An official announcement is expected later today.
Sources said the NTA has informed the University Grants Commission (UGC) that it is unable to hold the exam as per the earlier schedule. A meeting between the two bodies is slated for today to finalise new dates, after which a formal notification is expected.
The delay in CUET preparations has been attributed largely to the agency’s recent focus on conducting the NEET-UG exam held last Sunday. With CUET conducted by NTA on behalf of UGC, the agency has now sought additional time to prepare for the entrance test.
The absence of a confirmed schedule has led to considerable anxiety among lakhs of aspirants, many of whom are still waiting for city intimation slips and clarity on their exam timelines.
This year, CUET-UG will be entirely computer-based, covering 37 subjects. Each paper will be 60 minutes long and comprise 50 multiple-choice questions. Depending on exam centre availability, the test will be held in two to three shifts each day.
In a departure from previous years, the NTA has not released a formal date sheet. Instead, it will provide key details—including exam city and possibly subject-wise dates—through the city intimation slips. This has caused concern among students and parents, particularly around making travel and stay arrangements.
CUET-UG 2025 will be offered in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu. While there is no age limit for appearing in the exam, candidates must meet any age criteria set by the universities they are applying to. All candidates are advised to follow the instructions detailed in the information bulletin available on the official CUET website.
