The National Testing Agency (NTA) that conducts CUET-UG has shown a notable decrease in the number of registrations by 1.5 lakh applicants for the 2024 session. Meanwhile, the report reveals a significant surge in subject choices among candidates.

This year, applicants are opting for double the number of tests, averaging 4.3 subjects per candidate, up from 2.3 subjects in the previous year.

According to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which released the registration statistics for CUET UG 2024, there has been a decrease of 1.5 lakh applicants compared to the previous year. Nonetheless, CUET UG 2024 has still managed to attract 13.4 lakh registrations along with payment of the application fee.

The registration data for CUET 2024 indicates that 13.4 lakh applicants have signed up for CUET UG this year, with the top five preferred languages being English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Bengali, and Urdu. Notably, around 75% of candidates will take the English language test, while 62% will opt for the general test.

Additionally, female candidate registrations for 2024 have witnessed a 3% increase. Despite the overall decrease in CUET-UG applicants this year, there has been an uptick in candidates opting for four or more papers.

In terms of gender distribution, the proportion of female candidates has risen from 44.3% in 2023 to 47% this year. In the inaugural edition in 2022, female participation stood at 43.4%. This upward trend in female participation continues, with this year’s figure reaching 47%, marking an increase from 44.3% in 2023 and 43.4% in 2022. The total number of general candidates is 5.4 lakh.

UGC chairman Mamidala Jagadeesh Kumar commented, “Anything above 10 lakh is a big number. This is a small variation, which happens in such a large examination, and 13.4 lakh is anyway a big number.”
