The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Mumbai launched the Simulation Lab in India. The initiative aims at advancing medical education, nurturing innovation, and elevating clinical performance for healthcare practitioners and learners, according to an official announcement.
The Simulation Lab claims to be equipped with the latest technology and resources and aims to serve as a hub for training across various medical disciplines, featuring simulation manikins such as Ares (Male adult manikin), Lucina (Female adult manikin) and Arya (Pediatric manikin). These manikins enable students and medical practitioners to engage in immersive training across a spectrum of medical scenarios, sharpening their clinical skills and competence to provide top-quality patient care, as explained in the announcement.
Furthermore, officials claim that the Simulation Lab is its hospital-like environment, where students and medical practitioners receive continuous supervision from an observation room. Within this room, students engage in hands-on training while instructors monitor their activities from behind a glass partition.
The lab comprises three rooms, each housing a manikin, all interconnected with monitoring and debriefing rooms. The case scenarios presented to students are thoroughly discussed in the debriefing room, enabling others to observe their peers’ interactions with the manikins. Furthermore, each manikin is controlled via software displayed on screens within the simulation lab. CPS has already initiated faculty training to conduct simulation-based seminars, training programs, and examinations, with a training session for faculty held from the 19th to the 23rd of October 2023, as per the statement.
