The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued an important reminder to all affiliated schools regarding Class 10 and Class 12 practical exams, internal assessments and project work for the 2026 board examinations. The board has asked schools to strictly follow all rules so that the examination process runs smoothly without any issues.
CBSE has once again stressed that practical exams play a crucial role in the final result. Schools, students and parents have been advised to treat these exams with the same seriousness as theory papers, as any error or delay can create problems later.
CBSE practical exams 2026 dates
According to CBSE, practical exams, project work and internal assessments for both Class 10 and Class 12 must be conducted between January 1 and February 14. All activities related to practical evaluation have to be completed within this period.
Schools have also been instructed to upload practical marks on the same day the exam is conducted. Once the marks are uploaded, no changes will be allowed. CBSE has therefore asked schools to be extremely careful while entering marks.
Preparation of answer books and laboratories
Schools must ensure that they have enough practical answer books well before the exams begin. In case of any shortage, the concerned CBSE regional office must be informed immediately.
CBSE has also directed schools to make sure that all science laboratories are fully prepared. Necessary equipment and materials should be available in advance so that students do not face any difficulty during the exam.
Guidelines for examiners and evaluation
For Class 12 practical exams, only examiners appointed by CBSE are allowed to conduct evaluations. Schools are not permitted to appoint their own examiners. If an unauthorised examiner is used, the board may cancel the practical exam, according to the official circular.
Schools have been advised to contact external examiners well in advance to avoid last-minute confusion or delays.
Facilities for students with special needs
CBSE has asked schools to make proper arrangements for students with special needs. These students should be provided all necessary support so that they can appear for their practical exams comfortably and without stress.
No exemption for sports or other activities
The board has made it clear that students participating in national or international sports events will not be given any exemption from practical exams. No separate dates will be arranged. Such students must appear for practical exams according to the schedule fixed by their school.
CBSE has warned that all instructions must be followed strictly. If any rule is violated, the board has the authority to cancel the practical exam. Schools have also been informed that the payment rates for teachers and examiners involved in practical exams have been revised for the 2025–26 academic session.
Advice for students and parents
Students have been advised to stay in regular touch with their schools, complete their practical files and projects on time, and appear for exams as per the given schedule. Parents should also keep checking school updates to avoid any confusion.
CBSE has clearly stated that practical exams are just as important as theory papers. Proper preparation and strict adherence to rules are essential for every student appearing for the 2026 board exams.
