The British Council, the United Kingdom’s international organisation dedicated to fostering cultural relations and educational opportunities, has announced the allocation of 12 new grants and two additional grants, each valued at £500,000, to support collaborative ventures between academia and industry in both India and the UK, according to an official release.
This initiative is part of the Going Global Partnerships (GGP) programme and was officially unveiled during the India-UK Higher Education Conference in Delhi. This event marked a significant milestone as it coincided with the largest-ever delegation of the UK’s education sector to India, accompanied by representatives from India’s education community, the release mentioned.
Over the past three years, the GGP has disbursed approximately £2 million through 70 grants, benefiting 155 universities (100 in India and 55 in the UK) and fostering 13 industry partnerships, thereby impacting the educational journeys of more than 5,000 students. Notably, the GGP has facilitated the creation of courses that offer seamless credit transferability while upholding global educational standards, the release said.
This programme has been instrumental in the establishment of 36 innovative courses, with a particular focus on six courses dedicated to climate studies and sustainability. Furthermore, GGP has contributed to a 30% surge in enrolments for UK Transnational Education (TNE) programmes, it added.
