Scaler, an ed-tech startup, has reported that more than 30% of students who were admitted to the inaugural class of the fully residential four-year undergraduate programme in Computer Science at the Scaler School of Technology (SST) opted for SST, even though they had received offers from some of India’s most prestigious educational institutions, including IITs, IIITs, NITs, IISC and others. These students consciously chose the Scaler School of Technology, underscoring the distinctive appeal of its practical, industry-focused approach, according to an official release.
Furthermore, the admissions data for this cohort challenges the prevailing industry narrative. Almost 70% of SST’s students hail from Tier-2, Tier-3 and smaller cities, dispelling the misconception that contemporary educational programmes and institutions primarily serve students from metropolitan and Tier-1 locations, the release mentioned.
The admissions process garnered substantial interest, with over 54,000 registrations for the 191 available seats. SST experienced an enrollment of more than 5,000 students for the Scaler National Scholarship and Entrance Test (NSET), resulting in a highly selective acceptance rate of just 3.8% for the groundbreaking software engineering programme, it added.
Notably, more than half of the enrolled students (52%) come from families with an annual income of less than Rs 6 lakhs, illustrating SST’s commitment to making high-quality tech education accessible across diverse socio-economic backgrounds. Additionally, the institution is awarding scholarships to more than 25 students from economically weaker sections, ensuring that quality tech education remains within reach for a broad and diverse spectrum of aspiring learners, as per the release.
“As the first and only institute in the country without conventional professors, our faculty comprises seasoned industry professionals who not only possess extensive industry experience but have also led teams at some of the leading tech companies. The course curriculum has also been co-created alongside industry leaders from tech companies, ensuring that our learners are being taught the most relevant and updated material,” Bhavik Rathod, head, Scaler School of Technology, said.
