Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy vowed to take action against those who have encroached on lakes, including influential individuals, a day after authorities demolished a convention center co-owned by actor Nagarjuna.
The government will not spare anyone who has illegally occupied public land, Reddy said, vowing to crack down on such activities even if they are prominent figures in society.

At a Hare Krishna Movement event on Sunday, Reddy said he would follow Lord Krishna’s teachings, which advocate upholding Dharma to overcome Adharma for the benefit of people.
On Saturday, officials from the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), GHMC, and other departments removed encroachments from the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of Tammidikunta Lake. Among the structures taken down was the N-Convention, co-owned by Nagarjuna, which lacked proper building permissions.

“I want to do some good to the people as part of that. The sole objective is to liberate these lakes from the encroachers. We will crush encroachments with an iron hand. Though there are pressures, we will not go back and we will remove those encroachments,” the CM asserted.
He also noted that some farmhouses near lakes are discharging sewage into drinking water bodies like Gandipet and Himayat Sagar, which supply water to parts of the city.
He emphasised that he would not be a true public representative if he failed to protect the lakes and serve the people. The city’s lake network was designed by the former Nizam administration in response to a major flood in 1908, with the help of renowned engineer Mokshagundam Vishvesvaraya.
At another event, CM Reddy announced that the state government will establish the Young India Sports University next academic year to aim for medals in the next Olympics. He added that the government will promote Telangana as a sports destination and develop Gachibowli into a sports village.
