BJP’s South Delhi MP Ramesh Bidhuri triggered a massive political controversy over his objectionable remarks against BSP’s Dansih Ali. Bidhuri made the remarks during Lok Sabha debate on Chandrayaan-3 on Thursday night. The remarks, which have now been expunged, went viral on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday. While BJP has issued a show-cause notice to Bidhuri, Ali has demanded action against him.

The 62-year-old, who won the 2019 Lok Sabha Election from South Delhi, has been active in politics since his college days. From 2003 to 2008, Bidhuri was the vice-president of Delhi BJP. Till 2014, Bidhuri had won Delhi Assembly polls three times. He was three-time MLA from Delhi’s Tughlaqabad seat. The 2019 Lok Sabha win was his second consecutive victory after registering win in 2014 General Election. The South Delhi MP is a commerce graduate. He also holds a law degree. According to the 2019 data, there were four criminal cases pending against Bidhuri.

The 2015, 2017 controversy

This is not the first time that Bidhuri has been embroiled in a controversy. Back in 2017, he had raked up Sonia Gandhi’s Italian background to attack Congress. At a rally in Mathura, Bidhuri had said that it was not ‘Bhartiya sanskar’ to have kids and grandkids within seven months. Bidhuri made the remarks after the Congress had questioned the BJP’s ‘acche din’ and failure in fulfilling the promises. Even in 2015, Bidhuri had sparked a political row after five women lawmakers complained to then Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan against him. The five women MPs – Sushmita Dev, Ranjeet Ranjan, Arpita Ghosh, PK Sreemathi Teacher and Supriya Sule – had complained that the BJP lawmaker used sexist remarks in the House.
