Delhi MCD by-election results: Twelve wards of the Delhi MCD went to polls on Nov 30, presenting a test for the ruling BJP in Delhi, and AAP in the MCD after 2022 full elections. The BJP has won 7 wards and AAP bagged one. But one ward that has caught eyes is Chandni Mahal, where a candidate from a state party emerged victorious. Mohammad Imran of the All India Forward Bloc (AIFB), a party founded by India’s might freedom fighter – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in 1939.

Mohd Imran won the Chandni Mahal seat by defeating AAP’s Mudassar Usman by a margin of 4,692 votes. The Chandni Mahal ward had recorded the maximum voter turnout (55.93%) in the polling held on Nov 30.

About Mohd Imran

Mohd Imran is the leader of All India Forward Bloc, a resident of Delhi. The 44-year-old leader has four children, two sons and two daughters, and has two cases running against him, according to his affidavit.

It further states that he has a total movable asset of worth Rs 3,04,768 and his wife has Rs 4,35,000. His two daughters have movable assets worth Rs 2,55,000 and Rs 1,72,500 respectively. The affidavit mentions the family has one residential property with a market value of Rs 34,10,000.

Delhi MCD by-elections

Voting was held across 12 wards on November 30. Of these, nine were earlier held by the BJP and the remaining by AAP. However, it is the Congress and AIFB’s Mohd Imran who account for two losses that the BJP had to suffer in the polls, reducing the saffron party’s count to seven.

In the 2022 full MCD polls, the seat won won by AAP’s Aaley Mohammad Iqbal.

The vote percentage in the bypolls was 38.51 per cent as compared to 50.47 per cent in the MCD elections held for 250 wards in 2022.

The next full MCD elections are due in 2027.
