The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested Bandhu Man Singh, a handler linked to Canada-based gangster Goldy Dhilon, for his alleged role in the firing at comedian Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey, Canada.
Bandhu Man Singh is described by police as a trusted associate of Dhillon and a crucial figure in coordinating operations between India and Canada. As per ANI, he has multiple criminal cases registered against him and was earlier connected to a chain of illegal weapons recovered by the Crime Branch. As per police, a Chinese pistol and cartridges were seized from him at the time of arrest, police stated. After returning to India, Singh was allegedly working to rebuild Goldy Dhillon’s gang network. He was also arranging sophisticated weapons for future shootouts.
Accused of supplying weapons, vehicles and rebuilding gang networks
The news outlet reported that investigators believe Singh was the primary supplier of weapons and vehicles used by the shooters who attacked Kapil Sharma’s cafe. Police also mentioned that the vehicle used in the most recent attack belonged to him.
He was also part of a broader conspiracy to target the comedian’s restaurant as an act of intimidation, as per a PTI report.
The Delhi Police are now investigating his suspected involvement in overseas funding, potential targets and arms routes. Officials stated that efforts are underway to identify more conspirators linked to the gang’s India-Canada operations.
Link to previous Canada attacks
Kapil Sharma’s cafe in Surrey has been attacked three times since July, with shootings reported on July 10, August 8 and October this year. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) is probing the latest incident, which took place at around 3:45 am on 85 Avenue and 120 Street.
Following the October firing, a man identified as Kulvir Sidhu, reportedly connected to Lawrence Bishnoi’s network, claimed responsibility in a viral video. In his statement, he stated, “Today’s firing at Caps Cafe, Surrey was carried out by me, Kulvir Sidhu, Goldy Dhillon….Bollywood individuals who speak against our religion should also be prepared, bullet can come from anywhere.”
Meanwhile, Kapil Sharma himself reacted to the attacks during a press conference on November 26. He said, “There were three firing incidents…and I think maybe the police there don’t have enough power to control such things. But when our case happened, it was taken up at the deferral level…discussed in the Canadian Parliament.”
With Singh’s arrest, the Delhi Police are intensifying the investigation in the cross-border gang network.
