The India Meteorological Department has predicted that cold wave conditions will likely prevail in Jammu-Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh for the next seven days. In contrast, Rajasthan and Punjab will experience it for the next two days. The IMD has also issued an orange alert for severe cold wave conditions for Himachal Pradesh and a yellow alert for cold waves in the Jammu region, Punjab, Kutch, and Saurashtra.

Cold Wave Warning

As per the Met Department’s latest notification, severe cold wave conditions are expected to occur in parts of Himachal Pradesh from December 20-24. On the other hand, cold wave conditions will likely be prevalent in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Muzaffarabad, Jammu-Kashmir, Gilgit, and Baltistan. Similarly, Rajasthan, Punjab, Kutch, and Saurashtra are expected to experience it from December 20 to December 21.

Dense fog alert

Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and East Rajasthan are expected to have dense fog during late night and early morning hours till December 22, Punjab, Assam, Meghalaya, and Haryana are expected to get it from December 22 to December 25. Likewise, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim will experience it from December 21 to December 22. Additionally, ground frost is forecast in isolated places of Himachal Pradesh from December 20 to December 24. Meghalaya, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to have it on December 20.

Snowfall Predictions

The Weather Department has notified that ahead of the hardest winter period in Kashmir, called Chillai Kalan, temperatures have dipped significantly all over the valley. Srinagar recorded its coldest night of the season on Friday. The IMD projects dry weather till December 26, with a little possibility of snowfall in higher reaches on the night of December 22. There is also a chance of light snow from the night of December 27 till the morning of December 28.

Rainfall alert

Light rains or snowfall is predicted in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Ladakh, Jammu-Kashmir, and Muzaffarabad from December 22 to December 24.
