The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in its latest weather bulletin has notified that severe heatwave conditions are going to gradually lessen starting from May 30. Regions like Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chandigarh, Punjab, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience less impact of IMD heatwave conditions from today onwards. Meanwhile, conditions are becoming favourable for the monsoon onset over Kerala and the Northeastern States.
Delhi temperature soars to 79-year high
The weather office has also forecast that the National Capital is expected to have a maximum of 46 degrees Celsius today. It also predicted that there will be a partly cloudy sky and heatwave conditions will prevail in a few places. There is the possibility of very light rain accompanied by thunderstorms. On Wednesday, Delhi’s primary weather station Safdarjung Observatory recorded a maximum of 46.8 degrees Celsius. Most parts of central India and northern regions continued to stay in the grip of intense heatwave with national capital temperature soaring 79-year high as per PTI report. The weather officials were baffled when Mungeshpur was measured to have 52.9 degrees Celsius. An examination was conducted by the IMD for the possibility of errors in its sensors.
IMD’s heatwave prediction
According to the IMD weather report, extreme heat wave conditions are very likely in most parts of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh with a gradual reduction from today. These conditions are expected to persist in isolated areas until June 1. The heat wave conditions are expected to gradually decrease over Northwest and Central India.
Heavy Rainfall Forecast
The Met Department has also indicated that there will be isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Arunachal Pradesh in next four days. The report also warned that there will be isolated heavy rainfall over Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Mizoram on May 30. Similar weather conditions are predicted for Kerala and Mahe for next four days.
Maximum temperature across India
In terms of temperature, IMD has projected that a gradual decline in maximum temperatures by 3-4 degrees Celsius is expected to occur over Central India and Northwest during the next 3-4 days. On Wednesday, maximum temperatures ranged from 46-50 degrees Celsius in many parts of Northwest India and 42-46 degrees Celcius in many parts of West, Central, and East India.
