Light to moderate rainfall and snowfall are likely over the western Himalayan region on March 13 and 14 with peak intensity today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) mentioned. 

Owing to a fresh western disturbance, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and snowfall with isolated thunderstorms, hailstorms & lightning are likely over Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand today. 

Yellow warning in Himachal Pradesh

The local MeT Office in Himachal Pradesh issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms with lightning on Tuesday and predicted rain and snow in most places on Wednesday.

Higher reaches and isolated pockets in Lahaul Spiti and Kinnaur received fresh spell of snow and Kukumseri received 7.6 cm of snow, Gondla 7.3 cm, Keylong 3.5 cm, Kothi 1 cm while Sangla and Kufri in suburbs of Shimla received traces of snow, the local MeT department mentioned. 

Lahaul and Spiti’s Kukumseri was coldest at night recording a minimum temperature of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius while Una was hottest during the day with a high of 28.4 degrees Celsius.

Partly cloudy skies likely in the city

The national capital will see the partly cloudy sky with the possibility of drizzle at a few places today, the Regional Met Centre New Delhi mentioned 

On Tuesday, the minimum temperature in the city settled at 14.2 degrees Celsius, a notch below the seasonal average, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 30.9 degree Celsius. 

Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded in the poor category with a reading of 183 according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 9 am.

Rainfall forecast 

As per the weather forecast agency, isolated to scattered light rainfall is very likely over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Northwest Uttar Pradesh & Rajasthan today

Meanwhile, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh will see rainy conditions for the next few days. 

Northeastern states will also experience rain spells and snowfall. Isolated light rainfall is very likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura till March 15, 2024.

In the Southern region, hot and humid weather is likely to prevail over Kerala & Mahe, Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during the next 3 days.
