Weather today: As heavy monsoon rains continue to batter parts of the country, the Regional Meteorological Centre in New Delhi has issued fresh alerts for Delhi-NCR. It has placed Gurugram on red alert with more rainfall expected in the region. The met department has placed Faridabad on orange, Ghaziabad and Noida on yellow alert, while Delhi is still in green.
Weather today: Schools, offices shut in Gurugram
The authorities instructed schools and offices in Gurugram to operate in online mode on Tuesday as Gurugram is placed on a red alert by the met department till 11:46 AM.
“Today, from 3 pm to 7 pm, heavy rainfall of over 100 mm has been recorded in Gurugram City. Indian Meteorological Department in its forecast has issued an Orange Alert: Heavy to very Heavy rainfall on 02-09-2025,” an advisory issued by District Disaster Management Authority, Gurugram.
“In view of the above forecast, all Corporate offices and Private institutions in the district are advised to guide their employees to work from home; and all schools in the district are advised to conduct Online classes on 02-09-2025,” it added.
Authorities have also put Delhi on flood watch after Haryana released large volumes of water. Delhi CM Rekha Gupta assured that the city is fully prepared to handle any emergency. Officials noted that Haryana’s discharge marked one of the highest releases of water in recent times, amplifying the flood threat.
Delhi Police issues advisory
Although Delhi is painted green on IMD’s website, the water levels in the Yamuna have crossed the danger mark, and it is expected to rise further. Amid this, the Delhi Police have issued a traffic advisory. It noted that the Old Iron Bridge will remain closed from 4 PM today, September 2, until further notice.
The authorities have also urged the commuters to use public transport and avoid roadside parking of vehicles.

Weather today: Light to moderate rainfall expected
As per the RWFC New Delhi, light to moderate rainfall is predicted in several parts of the national capital. These are Narela, Alipur, Burari, Karawal Nagar, Dilshad Garden, Seemapuri, Shahadra, Vivek Vihar, Preet Vihar, Badili, Model Town, Azadpur, Delhi University, Civil Lines, Kashmiri Gate, Seelampur, Red Fort, ITO, and Akshardham.
In the wider NCR, rainfall has been forecast in Loni Dehat, Hindon Air Force Station, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Chhapraula, Dadri, and Tizara.
This comes a day after Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Noida were placed under a yellow alert, while Gurugram and Faridabad faced an orange alert due to heavy rainfall activity.
The showers yesterday caused massive traffic snarls across Delhi-NCR, with commuters stranded in kilometre-long jams. Many were not even able to book cabs to reach their destinations.
Earlier on Monday, the IMD predicted intense rainfall activity across northwest India over the next three days, with extremely heavy downpours likely in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and western Uttar Pradesh. The forecast also warned of heavy to very heavy rains in Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, and coastal Karnataka.
