Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place in Gandhinagar for next week’s Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 including 3-D mapping of venues with drones, forming decentralised command and control centres and installing CCTV cameras at key spots, a police officer said on Saturday.

The summit, scheduled from January 9-12, will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi and dignitaries from across the globe descend upon the state capital. To ensure their safety and smooth running of the event, a robust security apparatus has been put in place, covering the Mahatma Mandir, the Exhibition Centre and Gift City, Gandhinagar.

During a press conference, Virendra Singh Yadav, Range DIG of Gandhinagar, stated that various programs have been organized at the Mahatma Mandir, Sector-17 Exhibition Center, and GIFT City in Gandhinagar as part of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) 2024.

“A smooth and comprehensive arrangement for security and safety has been made, the rehearsal of which will commence on Sunday,” he said.

Security arrangements

Speaking about the security arrangements, he mentioned that the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024 will begin with the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Trade Show, to be inaugurated by PM Modi at the Mahatma Mandir Convention Hall.

“The entire arrangement has been divided into 6 zones, including Mahatma Mandir, Exhibition Centre, GIFT City, Raj Bhavan, Road arrangement, and Morcha Squad. The six zones will see the deployment of one additional director general of police, six inspector generals of police or deputy inspector generals, 21 superintendents of police, 69 deputy superintendents, 233 inspectors, 391 sub-inspectors, 5,520 police personnel, 100 commandos, 21 morcha squad members, 8 quick reaction teams and 15 bomb detection and disposal squad,” he added.

For the programs scheduled at Mahatma Mandir, Sector-17 Exhibition, and GIFT City, comprehensive preparations have been undertaken. 3D mapping of these venues has been carried out using drones, and essential CCTV, PTZ cameras, and parking zone cameras have been strategically installed. Additionally, planning has been finalized for the deployment and establishment of an RFID-based system for dignitary entry and parking of visitor vehicles, an official statement read.

The statement further read, “To ensure effective communication, a dedicated frequency channel has been created. Separate control rooms equipped with CCTV for security monitoring have been set up, with a centralized command and control room established at each location. These control rooms are now operational, and repeater channels have been established to facilitate coordination between the Ahmedabad city and Gandhinagar district police.”

Traffic diversions

Diversions for traffic regulation throughout the entire program have been implemented, and announcements have been made accordingly. According to the notification, heavy vehicle movement has been restricted on the road from Nana Chiloda to Vaishnodevi and from Jundal to Apollo Circle on the Ahmedabad Ring Road.

Alternative routes have been designated, such as the diversion from Nana Chiloda to Sector-30 Circle to K-7 Uvarsad to Balapir Dargah.

Additionally, heavy vehicles are directed from Apollo Circle and Tapovan Circle to Jundal Circle to Uvarsad Village to Vavol Village K-7 to Sector-30 Circle to Mota Chiloda. A notification has been issued specifying the use of roads numbered 1 to 7 for internal diversion in Gandhinagar, while ‘B’ and ‘C’ roads are reserved for the movement of dignitaries visiting Mahatma Mandir.
