A police officer in Uttar Pradesh has been suspended following allegations of pressuring a woman to withdraw her daughter’s kidnapping case. The incident has gained public attention, leading to protests led by students from a private school outside a local police station in Rampur.

According to sources, the protest resulted from an accusation that a police officer had slapped the mother of a former schoolmate. The incident happened in the locality of Milak Police Station, causing a massive traffic jam.

The mother of the 12-year-old girl reported that a group of policemen, including Ashok Kumar, the outpost in-charge, had visited her residence on Tuesday. She alleged that they physically assaulted her and her daughter during their visit.

“He slapped me two-three times and my clothes got torn,” the woman said, adding that the police exercised undue influence on her to withdraw the kidnapping and harassment case involving her daughter.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Sansar Singh, disclosed that the woman had filed a complaint against two teenagers under IPC sections 354 (criminal force with intent to outrage modesty) and 363 (kidnapping). These charges were based on the allegation that the accused forcibly took her daughter on their motorcycle. Both suspects have been detained, and a thorough investigation into the matter is underway.

The district administration has removed the Circle Officer, Station House Officer (SHO) of Milak Police Station, and two constables from their positions in the wake of the allegations. Additionally, the outpost in-charge, Ashok Kumar, has been suspended pending further inquiry.

To ensure a fair and impartial investigation, an additional district magistrate has been assigned to investigate the matter. If it is established that the woman was indeed subjected to physical mistreatment, FIRs (First Information Reports) will be registered against the responsible individuals.
