A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped multiple times by two men whom she befriended on social media platforms in Tripura’s Agartala, police said on Thursday. According to officials, the girl made friends with the duo on Facebook and Instagram in March, as per a PTI report.
On April 27, she visited the home of one of the accused in a remote village of the district, where she was allegedly raped by them again, Sheuli Das, the officer-in-charge of the Bishalgarh women’s police station, said.
The next morning, upon returning home, the girl’s parents sensed something was wrong and asked her about it. “On this, she told her mother about the sequence of events,” Das said.
Following this, a police complaint was filed on Tuesday, leading to the arrest of one of the accused.
“We have arrested the prime accused. He was sent to judicial custody for two weeks by a court on Wednesday. We are trying to arrest the other accused,” Das said.
