Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (April 22) condemned the terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district. and pledged that the terrorists “behind this heinous act will be brought to justice”. According to officials, the attack at the prominent tourist hotspot claimed multiple lives and left at least 20 others injured, sending shockwaves across the region.
“I strongly condemn the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that the injured recover at the earliest. All possible assistance is being provided to those affected. Those behind this heinous act will be brought to justice…they will not be spared! Their evil agenda will never succeed. Our resolve to fight terrorism is unshakable and it will get even stronger,” PM Modi said in a tweet.

Earlier in the day, hours after the heinous attack, PM Modi also spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah following the terrorist attack on tourists. The PM instructed Shah to take all necessary steps in response to the incident and directed him to visit the site personally to assess the situation on the ground.
Pahalgam terror attack death toll
The attack claimed multiple lives and left at least 20 others injured, sending shockwaves across the region. The attack occurred earlier in the day when terrorists opened fire on civilians in the Pahalgam area. While initial reports suggest several injuries, the state government has yet to release an official statement regarding casualties. Injured tourists have been admitted to a local hospital in Pahalgam for treatment.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound sorrow and outrage over the attack. “The death toll is still being confirmed, so I won’t speculate. Details will be officially shared once the situation is clearer,” he said. “This is one of the worst civilian attacks we’ve seen in recent years. I’m shocked beyond belief—this assault on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators are inhuman and deserving of the highest condemnation. My sympathies go out to the victims’ families.”
He further added that local authorities were working to ensure proper medical care for the injured. “I’ve spoken with my colleague Sakina Itoo, who is already at the hospital to oversee arrangements. I’ll be returning to Srinagar immediately.”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha strongly condemned Tuesday’s terror attack in the popular tourist destination of Pahalgam, located in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. He assured that those responsible for the heinous act would be brought to justice.
“I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished,” the LG said in a post on X.
