The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday (April 8) predicted heatwave conditions in parts of the national capital and also issued a “yellow alert” for the residents. According to the weather department, the Capital city recorded the first heat wave of the season on Monday (April 7) as the temperature touched 40.2 degrees Celsius.

In view of the rising temperatures in the northern part of the country, netizens have been searching for news related to temperature, weather updates and forecasts for their cities. Since Tuesday morning, searches related to temperature, heatwave and weather have surged, surpassing 10,000 queries. Additionally, queries for Delhi weather, Jaipur temperature and Ahmedabad weather has also seen a significant rise.

IMD issues heatwave alert in Delhi for 2 days

A severe heatwave is sweping across North India this week, with West Rajasthan experiencing the most intense conditions. IMD has extended a yellow alert for two more days in Delhi, forecasting heatwave conditions and clear skies, with temperatures expected to reach 41 degrees Celsius. 

IMD Scientist Dr Naresh Kumar said, “…We have issued a heatwave warning in Delhi-NCR for the next two days. On 11th April, there is a probability of light rainfall. We have issued a red alert for a heatwave in Rajasthan. The temperatures during the day and night will be extremely high. The situation will improve after 48 hours. There will be light rainfall in the Himalayas for the next 4-5 days…”

Maximum temperatures in several states, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, have soared 5 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius above normal. Gujarat’s Saurashtra and Kutch regions are also among the worst-hit. 

Other parts of central and southern India reported moderate spikes, while regions like Bihar, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu remained cooler than usual. The IMD predicts a gradual drop in temperatures across Northwest India from April 10, but heatwave advisories remain in place until then.
