During the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka, the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Friday that a case has been filed against BJP’s incumbent MP and candidate for Bangalore South, Tejasvi Surya.
The case pertains to “posting a video on X (formerly Twitter) handle and soliciting votes on the ground of religion,” in violation of the election code of conduct. The case was registered on Thursday.
“Case is booked against Tejasvi Surya MP and Candidate of Bengaluru South PC on 25.04.24 at Jayanagar PS u/s 123(3) for posting a video in X handle and soliciting votes on the ground of religion,” the CEO, Karnataka posted on X.
In the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Karnataka has 28 constituencies, with 14 voting in the second phase and the remaining 14 scheduled for the third phase on May 7.
As per EC data till 5 pm, Bangalore South recorded a voter turnout of 49.37 per cent, the lowest after Bangalore Central, which recorded 48.61 per cent voter turnout.
Surya won the Bangalore South constituency in 2019 beating Congress leader BK Hariprasad by over 3.30 lakh votes.
