The Supreme Court on Friday adjourned the hearing of a bail plea filed by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to September 5. Kejriwal has challenged the Delhi High Court’s order upholding his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam.

The top court has granted one week further time to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to file a reply to one of the pleas, ANI reported.

The CBI told the apex court that Kejriwal is politically sensationalising the case and has been involved in criminal conspiracy. “The actions of Manish Sisodia were in consultation with and at the behest of the Petitioner, the Chief Minister of Delhi,” the central agency told the SC.

Meanwhile, the AAP has launched a new campaign ‘Kejriwal aayenge’ ahead of the 2025 Assembly polls. AAP National General Secretary (Organisation) and Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak said, “Delhiites are eagerly awaiting their CM’s release… Ever since Kejriwal’s arrest, many works in Delhi have stopped. People are very confident that after his release, all the stalled works will be completed and pending problems will also be resolved quickly.”

Earlier on August 5, the Delhi high court ruled that Kejriwal’s arrest was neither illegal nor without justifiable grounds because CBI presented “evidently enough evidence” to warrant his detention and remand. It further said that Kejriwal is not an ordinary citizen but a distinguished recipient of the Magsaysay Award and the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party.
