BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, during the resumed Budget session of Parliament on Monday (February 3), commented on the ongoing investigation into the stampede incident that occurred during the Maha Kumbh. In his address, the BJP MP stated that the authorities have sensed a potential conspiracy emerging from the ongoing investigation.

“Investigation is underway on the incident that took place in Maha Kumbh. We are getting the smell of a conspiracy from the investigation. When the entire investigation is done, the people who were behind the incident will have to bow down in shame,” Ravi Shankar Prasad said in Lok Sabha today. 

Opposition demands ‘accountability’, accuses govt of ‘mismanagement’

Opposition MPs in both the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha staged protests against the Uttar Pradesh government over the Mahakumbh stampede incident, demanding accountability and an investigation into the tragedy. 

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Manoj Jha expressed concern over the loss of lives, stressing the need for transparency, while Congress MP Pramod Tiwari questioned the delay in releasing the list of deceased victims. 

Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav blamed the administration’s mismanagement for the stampede, with eyewitnesses claiming that thousands were affected. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi accused the government of trying to hide the truth and called for an urgent investigation. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla criticised the opposition for disrupting the House with slogans, emphasising the need for constructive discussions. 

Mahakumbh Mela stampede

A stampede during the Mahakumbh Mela on Mauni Amavasya resulted in at least 30 deaths and 60 injuries. Following the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government formed a three-member judicial commission to investigate the causes and propose preventive measures, with a report due within a month.
