Mumbai is once again set for its two Shiv Sena Dussehra rallies on Tuesday evening. While Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde will address the Sena cadre from Azad Maidan in South Mumbai, former CM Uddhav Thackeray will show his strength at Shivaji Park in Dadar.

Through the teasers and the rally, both Sena factions are staking a claim on the legacy of late Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Taking digs at each other through posters, both Sena factions are claiming theirs as the real Dussehra rally which follows the ideology of Bal Thackeray.

In addition, the Shinde Sena on Monday claimed that one lakh people will attend its rally while Uddhav Sena made similar claims about the turnout.

The Sena (UBT) on Sunday launched a teaser for its rally. In the teaser, it referred to the Shinde group as ‘traitors’. MP Sanjay Raut described the Shinde-led Sena’s Dussehra rally as “Chinese material”. The Shinde faction has put up banners across the city ahead of its rally, while Sena (UBT) functionaries have installed banners in Dadar.

This is the second year that two Dussehra rallies will be held in Mumbai after the split in Sena last year, engineered by Sena leader Eknath Shinde.

Both factions fought over the venue for the Dussehra rally last year. They filed applications with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to get permission for the rally, but the civic body rejected both applications.

The Bombay High Court eventually allowed the Sena (UBT) to hold the event at Shivaji Park on October 5 last year, while the Shinde-led Sena held its rally at MMRDA ground in Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC).

The undivided Shiv Sena had been holding the Dussehra rally at the Shivaji Park or Shiv Tirth, as the party calls it, for years now. The event holds much importance for the Sena as a political party since its foundation was laid in 1966.
