The Supreme Court has issued a notice seeking responses from the Directorate of Education (DoE), the Delhi government, and the Action Committee for Unaided Recognised Private Schools in connection with a plea challenging a Delhi High Court ruling.

The High Court had allowed private schools located on government land to hike tuition fees without first getting clearance from the DoE, according to ANI.

The plea was filed by the Naya Samaj Parents Association, which raised concerns about steep fee hike by private unaided schools in the National Capital. The group alleges that some schools have raised their fees by up to 100 percent and are taking harsh actions against students in cases of non-payment.

Earlier this month, several students were stopped from entering Delhi Public School (DPS) Dwarka due to unpaid fees, leading to protests by concerned parents outside the school gates.

As reported by The Indian Express, these students were among 29 who had been expelled by the school with immediate effect on May 9, citing legal grounds. Parents, however, have accused the school of acting insensitively and ignoring a Delhi High Court order issued just weeks earlier.

They alleged that bouncers were deployed at the entrance and that children were abruptly sent home in school buses without any prior notice. Many parents described the incident as distressing and said they were left unaware of their children’s whereabouts for a period of time. They claimed the school failed to communicate properly and handled the situation in a way that caused unnecessary emotional stress for both students and families.
