Speaking to the Indian community in a summit at Morocco, Defence minister Rajnath Singh lauded the success of Operation Sindoor, which was undertaken by the Indian armed forces on May 7 in a response to the infamous Pahalgam attack.

“We based our action not on religion but on the deeds of the opponent,” Rajnath told members of the Indian community present at a conference in Rabat, Morocco. He further launched multiple praises for the Indian army, commending their bravery and perseverance.

Commending the armed forces for the success of the operation, Rajnath mentioned that the Indian army was given absolute freedom to respond to the cowardly terror attack on innocent civilians in Pahalgam.

“Our actions were completely measured and non-escalatory in measure”, Rajnath emphasised in his concluding remarks about the operation. The minister also took out quotes from the book Ramcharitramanas to highlight India’s nature of non-intrusion and justified aggression.

Why is Rajnath in Morocco?

Rajnath is presently away on a two day visit to the South African country of Morocco. During his visit the defence minister is expected to hold a bilateral diplomatic meeting with the Moroccan security minister Abdeltif Loudiyi. Both sides are expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) based on defence coordination.

Experts predict for the agreement to lay out a formal pathway that will incorporate the expansion and deepening of bilateral defence engagement. The agreement is reported to include multiple provisions for enhancing cooperation between both sides including joint training exercises, security exchanges and industrial linkages. With this visit, Rajnath Singh has become the first ever Indian defense minister to make an official defence expedition to Morocco.
