Showers brought some relief from the intense heatwave in Delhi and NCR on Wednesday after the national capital recorded the highest-ever temperature of 52.3 degrees Celsius earlier today.

Over the previous two days, severe heatwave temperatures have caused major problems for Delhi. The minimum temperature is slowly approaching 30 degrees, while the maximum temperature has been circling around 50 degrees.

“Thunderstorm with light intensity rain and gusty winds with speed of 30-40 Km/h would occur over and adjoining areas of few places of Delhi and NCR, Gohana, Sonipat, Rohtak, Kharkhoda (Haryana) Pilakhua, Hapur, Gulaoti, Siyana, Sikandrabad,” reads a tweet by Regional Weather Forecasting Center (RWFC).

The national capital was expected to experience intense heat, as the weather office had previously warned. The highest temperature expected today, according to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast, is 45.8 degrees. But at 2:30 pm, the Mungeshpur weather station in Delhi registered the highest temperature ever recorded in any portion of India, 52.3 degrees Celsius.
