Former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira was arrested by the police in the wee hours of Tuesday from his residence in Zira of Punjab’s Firozpur district and was sent to judicial custody till October 30 by the Duty Magistrate.
The arrest comes after Zira and about 80 unidentified people were booked on October 13 based on the complaint of Surjit Singh, Zira constituency’s block development program officer (BDPO), on charges of obstructing him and the other staff from discharging their duties, ANI reported.

The official at the BDPO office requested police intervention as Zira and his colleagues had occupied the office for three days, allegedly obstructing official work and tampering with government documents.
After his arrest, an official said, “He was produced before the Duty Magistrate and was sent to judicial custody till October 30.”
A case against Kulbir Singh Zira has been registered under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and further investigation is underway.
