Congress leader Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a public gathering in Vijayapura, accusing him of being scared.

Gandhi’s comments came in response to Modi’s recent criticisms of the Congress party on various issues, including “mangalsutra,” “redistribution of wealth,” and “inheritance tax.”

Addressing the crowd in Karnataka, Gandhi accused PM Modi of attempting to divert public attention through various tactics. “You have heard the Prime Minister’s speeches. He is scared. It’s possible that he may shed tears on stage,” Gandhi said.

“Modi tries to divert your attention. Sometimes he talks about China and Pakistan, and sometimes he will make you beat plates and ask you to switch on the torch light of your mobile phones,” Gandhi said.

Highlighting key concerns facing India, including poverty, unemployment, and inflation, Gandhi said that only the Congress party could address these issues effectively and ensure fair distribution of wealth. He also criticised Modi for allegedly favouring billionaires while neglecting the interests of marginalized communities and the economically disadvantaged.

Gandhi also pledged to abolish the ‘Agniveer’ scheme, which offers three years of service in the armed forces to youth aged 18 to 21, describing it as an insult to the Indian Army and its soldiers.

“Narendra Modi snatched the Army jobs from the youth of India. He brought the Agniveer scheme, which is an insult to the Indian Army and soldiers. We will scrap it,” Gandhi said.

Gandhi, who is contesting from Kerala’s Wayanad constituency, also accused Modi of implementing a flawed Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, promising to revise it to rectify the alleged injustice faced by the people of Karnataka.

Regarding the ongoing Lok Sabha election, Gandhi characterized it as unprecedented, claiming that for the first time in Indian history, a party and an individual seek to undermine the Constitution and democracy.

“It is not an election that used to happen earlier because for the first time in the history of India, a party and a person want to destroy the Constitution and democracy.”
