Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s five-nation visit is currently in Namibia. While addressing the parliament, PM Modi not only received a standing ovation but also Members of the House chanting “Modi! Modi!”

In his speech, he underlined the role and power of the Indian constitution that a person like him secured his third tenure as a leader of India, despite of coming from a poor family. “”It is because of India’s Constitution that a daughter from a poor tribal family is today the President of the world’s largest democracy,” he added, referring to President Droupadi Murmu.

On his visit, he was also honoured with Namibia’s highest civilian award. The Prime Minister also spoke about the support that India extended to Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. “During the pandemic, we stood with Africa providing vaccines and medicines even when many others refused to share. Our Aarogya Maitri initiative supports Africa with hospitals, equipment, medicines and training. India is ready to supply Namibia with a Bhabhatron radiotherapy machine for advanced cancer care. This machine, developed in India, has been deployed in 15 countries and has helped nearly half a million patients in different countries with critical cancer care. We also invite Namibia to join the Jan Aushadhi program for access to affordable and quality medicines,” he said.

India and Namibia explored ways to deepen cooperation in defence, maritime security, digital technology, including UPI, energy, and critical minerals during Prime Minister Modi’s bilateral meeting with President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah in Windhoek, as part of the final leg of his five-nation tour.

While addressing Namibia’s Parliament, PM Modi shared India’s vision for Africa under the theme “freedom to future,” emphasising collaboration over competition and building shared prosperity rather than taking resources. “Let us create a future defined not by power, but by partnership; not by dominance, but by dialogue; not by exclusion, but by equity,” he urged.
