Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Friday gave an adjournment motion notice in Lok Sabha, to discuss the air quality crisis in Delhi, since the national capital has been grappling with air pollution issues since the start of November.
"Delhi's air quality has been consistently ranked among the worst in the world for several years. The situation has worsened significantly this year, with air quality indexes reaching hazardous levels, crossing the 400 mark. The current air quality in Delhi is beyond acceptable," the notice submitted by Gogoi read.
In October this year, a political storm erupted after BJP MP Nishikant Dubey accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra of “asking questions in Parliament in exchange for cash and gifts” from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Dubey demanded immediate suspension of Moitra from the House and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to constitute an “inquiry committee” to look into the charges against her.
An Ethics Committee was constituted to probe the allegations. On October 19, in an affidavit to the ethics panel, businessman Hiranandani claimed that the TMC MP provided him her Parliament login details so that he could “post questions” directly “on her behalf when required”.
