Addressing the nation on the 79th Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the Indian Armed Forces for successfully carrying out Operation Sindoor. The PM said that the Operation marked a turning point in how India deals with cross-border terrorism. “We have set a new normal in dealing with cross-border terrorism, he said. I salute our brave soldiers who punished those behind the Pahalgam attack beyond their imagination,” the PM said.
‘Pakistan’s sleep is still disturbed’: PM Modi in I-Day speech
Modi added that Pakistan continues to feel the impact of Operation Sindoor as new details still keep emerging every day. He said the armed forces had full freedom to respond after the Pahalgam attack, and they chose the timing and manner of their retaliation.
Operation Sindoor saw the Indian military carry out precision strikes deep into enemy territory, targeting terrorist headquarters and training camps. Among the most significant hits was the destruction of Jaish-e-Mohammed’s base in Bahawalpur, Pakistan, along with several other facilities.
The operation was conducted by all three branches of the armed forces between May 7 and May 10. It targeted both terrorist and military installations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This was in direct retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, where 26 people were killed, most of them tourists.
Free hand to Indian Armed Forces – PM’s stern warning to Pak
In a staunch warning to Pakistan, PM Modi added that those giving safe haven to the terrorists will be treated the same way. He added that nuclear threats against India have continued for far too long and will no longer be tolerated. The PM warned that if the enemy continues with such tactics, the Indian Armed Forces will respond decisively, choosing their own timing and strategy to achieve their goals. He stressed that India is fully prepared to give a strong reply.
His sharp comments regarding the nuclear threat came after Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and several Pakistani leaders, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, recently made hostile statements against India.
Speaking to the Pakistani community in Tampa, Florida, last week, Munir had claimed that Pakistan can use its nuclear weapons to destroy India.
