The Opposition on Tuesday moved a no-confidence motion against Vice-President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, IE reported. According to the report, sources from the Opposition said that the motion, backed by 65 signatures, aims to challenge what they perceive as biased conduct by the presiding officer.
The Opposition has accused Dhankhar of denying them opportunities to voice concerns in the House. Despite the move, the motion is expected to be defeated given the BJP-led NDA’s numerical strength in the Rajya Sabha. This marks the second such attempt, following a similar contemplation by the Opposition in August.
Proceedings in the Upper House were marred by disruptions on Tuesday as the BJP accused the Congress of aligning with billionaire investor George Soros to “harm” the country.
