Drug price regulator National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has decided to undertake a study to revise the norms and methodology for fixing and changing the prices of medicines in the country.

?As per the provisions of DPCO-1995, NPPA has taken up a study to revise and fix the norms for conversion cost (CC), packing charges (PC), process loss (PL) and packing material (PM) for the year 2010,? a NPPA statement said. The conversion cost takes into account the salaries, wages, repaid and maintenance administrative overheads, and R&D expenses of a pharma company.

These norms for CC, PC, PL & PM are to be worked out on actual cost data and information sourced from various manufacturers and formulators, the regulator said. It also asked the companies to submit the data and information related to any new product or new drug delivery system introduced with the latest technology and process of manufacture separately along with the detailed write-up on the process involved.
