A GST deputy commissioner, Sanjay Singh on Monday jumped to death from the 15th floor of is apartment building in Noida Sector 75. According to the police, the victim’s family said that he was battling with depression.
The tragic incident took place in Apex Athena Society when Sanjay who used to work at Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department in Ghaziabad, jumped from the building around 11 am as per KG Sharma, Incharge of Sector 113 police station.
“Family members told police that he was suffering from cancer and was in depression due to which he may have committed suicide,” the officer said.
According to Sanjay’s colleague, he had been suffering from prostate cancer for the past five years. He was in the final stage of the disease and had been battling depression, GST Additional Commissioner, Ghaziabad, MP Singh said.
Sanjay was assigned to the GST office in Rajendra Nagar, Sector 2, Ghaziabad, where he managed cases being heard in the Supreme Court of India. The police have confirmed that the body has been sent for a postmortem. He is survived by his wife and two sons—his elder son is employed in Gurugram, while his younger son is studying for a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree at Sharda University in Greater Noida.
